!!!
1. I have a huge crush on Alan Rickman. If he came up to me on the street and proposed, I’d say yes in a heartbeat. A good 2/3 of my friends think this is weird. But I find him gorgeous, fascinating, and attractive in the sort of way where I think my life would be complete if he would smile at me.
2. I almost never listen to my voicemails. If you EVER need to get in touch with me, as my voicemail message thingy will tell you, KEEP CALLING. Or text. But voicemails are a sure-fire way NOT to get a response. I think the most I’ve racked up at any given time was 17. It’s not that I have anything against them. It’s just out of my entire list of things to do on any given day, they never seem to make the cut.
3. I’m adopted. Woot. I recently reconnected with my birth mother (slightly), although we have ceased communication for the past 2 and a half months. I think it’s a lack of things to say on both our parts. Needless to say, she is one of my heroes. I owe my life to her willingness to endure 9 months which culminated in stretch marks, a hospital gown, and an epidural.
4. My middle name, Suzanne, is a combination of my dad’s two sisters, Suzette and Maxie Anne. Maxie, who was on par with Mother Teresa, died when I was 7 of pancreatic cancer. She is the strongest reason why I believe there has to be a heaven.
5. I dye my hair at least once a month. The count is now near 80 times since my Sophomore year of high school (when I dyed it black to play a Polynesian islander in “South Pacific). And yet my hairdresser says I have impeccably soft locks. Lucky me.
6. From age three on, I was singing with my Dad and some of his friends. This eventually turned into a band, ‘Doc Rayford and the Deacons’ (campy, I know, but oh so fun). It consisten of me, my dad, my mom, and three other dudes. We toured churches, camps, and parts of Austria and Slovakia. We had our own shirts, though, so we were officially cool.
7. I taught ESL in Ruzomberok, Slovakia during some of my middle and high school summers. I have never seen a more beautiful place in my entire life.
8. The first time I ever acted was as a child in Bye-Bye Birdie at Shenandoah University. I got to dance with a little boy who I had to kiss (eww) and then I had to faint and lie still on a wooden floor for FOREVER. I was six. I recently was on a college stage again, at my own school (Radford University). I was cast in my first ever principal role: The Nurse in MEDEA.
9. For bedtime stories my dad read me the entire Lord of the Rings series, The Hobbit included, starting when I was four. Then we moved on to several works by Charles Dickens. But he always sang me a song, usually one that he wrote or something by Dan Fogelberg. My mother read me stories from the “Oz” series. I still remember going to the Handley library with her to check them out.
10. I’m extremely scared to be out in the real world and have to take charge of my life.
11. I’ve been blown a birthday kiss by Bernadette Peters and I’ve had a 12 second conversation with Patti LuPone. Now if I could just have tea simultaneously with Alan Rickman, Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, and Bette Midler…my life would be complete.
12. I really wish I had an accent. Doesn’t have to be British, although that would be preferable. But as long as it’s a cool one I can deal.
13. I’m in love with Directing. There’s a beauty and wonder in it that I am still searching for in the “real world”. You’re free to depict things how you see them, which works great for me. I love to switch things up. I’m never married to the obvious.
14. If I could have any surgery for free it would be a toss up between getting my skin condition fixed, or having my neck reconstructed so that I could actually have a jaw line. I’m very jealous of people with jaw lines.
15. I have many aspirations for myself, the highest of which is to become a wife and mother. I know it sounds extremely corny, but I want a family.
16. I’m a lover, and a fighter for what I believe in. Few things irk me more than racists, homophobes, and people who idolize George Bush. If you fall into one of those categories, we’re better off not speaking. Really. Love ya, mean it.
17. I’m very protective of the people I love, like, or, depending on the situation, someone I see on the street.
18. The simple pleasures in life are great: belly laughs, smiles, imitating Karen Walker, singing at the top of your lungs, pomegranates, the color yellow, and, as always, a good glass of Merlot.
